David Vaughn, C|CISO, LPT, GSNA, CISSP
David Vaughn works as a Corporate Information Security Officer for BB&T Bank. He has served in the infosec field with over 20 years of proven experience and expertise. He is responsible for the safeguarding of payment systems security. David holds numerous industry-recognized certifications, including his CISSP, C|CISO, LPT, GCFA, and holds a B.S. in Computer Science with a concentration in Network Security Management.
As an incumbent, David was elected last term to serve as the Director of Education and Professional Development for ISSA International. He had previously served at the chapter level as the Director of Education for the ISSA Raleigh Chapter, for three years.
During this time, he was monumental in establishing a program called Back to Basics, which focused on increasing membership through providing simple cybersecurity centric training taught by subject matter experts within the chapter before each monthly meeting. This program, along with great synergy within the board members grew the Raleigh Chapter substantially.
David was recognized for his work by ISSA International at the 2015 International Conference with the “Volunteer of the Year Award”. While at the Conference David began working with the Women in Security Special Interest Group (WISIG), and for his first project championed a memorial scholarship for the late Shon Harris.
As a Senior Member of ISSA International, David has been actively involved in other information security organizations. He was elected to serve two years consecutively as the Secretary for the ISC2 Raleigh Chapter.
David was elected to serve as the treasurer and then as the President of the High Technology Crime Investigators Association (HTCIA). He is the current elected vice president of Young AFCEANS fof the Ft Bragg Chapter. Along with elected leadership roles, David has been a contributing member of the Raleigh Infragard Chapter, the North Carolina Technology Association, Eastern Shield Cybersecurity Working Group, and the FBI Citizen’s Academy.
David Vaughn is a decorated military Veteran who continues to serve in the Army Reserve. He is currently assigned to the Army Reserve Cyber Operations Group. Some of his awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious, both Iraq and Afghanistan Medals with Campaign Star.
