David Vaughn is the head of Cyber Threat Intel at Equinix, he is responsible for advising the CISO and line of business leadership on threats to Equinix’s infrastructure, its partners, and its clients from Cyber Criminals and others internal or external threats. His team is accountable for designing implementing and supervising Equinix’s collection, and analysis of technical, and non-technical intelligence from all sources. He serves as a primary liaison with US Government and Private Sector Intelligence Communities to forge, foster and collaborate peer relationships within the Information Security ecosystem at Equinix
David came to Equinix after serving as a Senior Investigator at SpyCloud. the world leader in account takeover & fraud prevention. For the last two decades and counting. David has served in the United States Army Reserves. As a reservist, he uses his real-world experience to provide creative thought leadership as a Senior Cyber Advisor for Headquarters Department of the Army CIO/G6 within the Enterprise Cloud Modernization Agency at the Pentagon.
Prior to joining SpyCloud. David worked for BB&T (now Truist) as Corporate Information Security Officer, and prior to that role he served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Cyber Defense Technologies, where his primary focus was the US Public Sector services portfolio.
As both a father and a security professional. David is passionate about social causes that intersect with next-gen InfoSec technology. Organizations like Thorn, DigiGirlz. CTI-League, and Cyber Now Education. He has regularly volunteered and participated in conferences including Black Hat. DEFCON, DerbyCon, ShmooCon, BSidesLV, and InfoSecCon, and served on the founding board of BSides Raleigh.
David is currently serving his second elected term as International Director on the Board of Directors for Information Systems Security Association International (ISSA). He is deeply passionate about implementing programs for fellow professionals to grow and expand their careers, as well as creating avenues for new professionals to gain a foothold in the information security industry. He has served in various roles with the Armed Forces Communication Electronics Association (AFCEA). High Technology Crime Investigators Association (HTCIA), Infragard Raleigh. ISC2 Raleigh Chapter, and the Raleigh ISSA Chapter.
In 2019 as a means of furthering his work for the local community he became an elected public official within his local government. David holds numerous industry certifications some of which include: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). GIAC Certified Systems and Network Auditor (GSNA), GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH). He is the proud father of three children, and currently resides in North Carolina.
