The ISSA Privacy SIG would like to introduce a new series called Birds of a Feather (BoF). The BoF series will provide our ISSA Privacy SIG Members an opportunity to engage on topics relevant to their jobs. This will be an open and friendly environment where members should feel safe to discuss their ideas with others.

We will discuss relevant topics related specifically to privacy like Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), Record of Processing Activities (ROPA), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA), privacy risk assessment, consent management, privacy training requirements for specific regulations. We want to provide an opportunity to discuss best business practices related to these topics. If you have good examples and are willing to share them, we welcome these documents.

Attendees should walk away feeling that they have had a positive engagement with their peers and have more confidence to complete one of these privacy program tasks.

The March BoF topic will be Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs):

Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) are part of most privacy regulations including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Virginia’s Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and Colorado Privacy Act (CPA.) These all have some flavor of Right to Know, Right to Access, Right to Correct, Right to Delete, Right to Data Portability, Right to opt-out of selling/advertising, Right to Object or Restrict processing, and the Right to not have Automated Decision Making or profiling. This session will review DSAR Policies and Procedures and discuss strategies for compliance. We will review different templates for acknowledgment of a request, responding to a request, and denying a request. We will discuss the complexity of harmonizing people’s identities across different systems. Please come with all your questions and good ideas for practical DSAR implementation.

Please note:
