Overview

With identity-based ransomware attacks on the rise both in volume and dollar amount demanded, cyber insurance companies are starting to require security measures as a precondition for eligibility. Many cyber insurance firms are using cybersecurity tools to run an analysis of clients’ controls to make sure they are up to par. Ray Austad – Director of Information Security and Risk Management, Farmers Insurance

Starting at Farmers Insurance Group over seven years ago, Ray spent several years as Business Information Security Office, focusing on Cybersecurity, AppSec, and Vulnerability Management. Just before the pandemic began the start of 2020, he shifted to the second line of defense for Information Security inside Enterprise Risk Management. Today, Ray currently serves as the Director for Information Security and Risk Management at Farmers Insurance Group, and recently his role expanded to Operational Risk Management, overseeing Information Security, Business Resilience Risk, and Third-Party Risk. In this role, he leads the annual Cyber Policy renewal process for his organization. Ray is based out of Los Angeles, CA., holds his CISSP since 2014, and has spent many years in various IT positions, from code developer, infrastructure management, and a variety of Information Security positions.

Elizabeth Patrick is a Manager in the Advisory Service practice of Ernst & Young LPP within the Cyber Security Data Protection and Privacy (DPP) Group. Elizabeth brings over 27 years of technical expertise and 15 years working in Data Protection and Privacy/. She is part of the EY's Cyber Security practice out of the Miami office.
