    Research on Effective Security Awareness
While security awareness programs are generally considered valuable, the reality is that the clear majority of programs are failures. Security awareness can be the most cost-effective countermeasure, but only when it is implemented properly. This session highlights the results of a detailed study that examined the critical success factors in effective security awareness programs. Additionally, this session will be part of an ongoing research effort exploring impressions of the common security awareness measures in use.

New Standard and Approach for Multifactor Authentication

Phil Dunkelberger, former CEO of PGP Corporation (acquired by Symantec in 2010), will discuss the widely-acknowledged problems with using account names and passwords to authenticate online. The nature of the breakdown of historical strong authentication will be reviewed, along with key obstacles faced in scaling prior attempted solutions. The interplay of existing systems, ongoing standards-based approaches, and new initiatives will be reviewed, with focus on the key characteristics required for any proposed solution to work at internet/cloud scale. Finally, the session will examine the possible opportunities for businesses and end users that could be unleashed by a re-imagined approach to delivering strong authentication.
