Why Social and Emotional Intelligence (SEI) Skills Are Needed by Information Systems Security Professionals in Order to Be Successful

Daniel Goleman’s book (PhD, Harvard) Emotional Intelligence: Why It can Matter More than IQ, first released in 1995 took information and research from psychology and neuroscience to present a new insight to the business world – that we have two minds, the rational and the emotional. And that the Emotional Intelligence (EI) can and frequently does matter more than IQ for performance in any job. The recent research of Richard J. Davidson (PhD, Harvard) using MRI technology to view the brain, The Emotional Life of Your Brain, confirms this with hard core MRI day. Then, Travis Bradberry (PhD, California School of Professional Psychology) with Jean Greaves (PhD, California School of Professional Psychology) in Emotional Intelligence 2.0, confirms all of this with testing data from over 500,000 people.

Net/net: emotions can override our thoughts and influence our behavior. Recognizing the emotions of ourselves and others has been proved to surpass IQ in predicting success in relationships at work and all other areas of our live.

This presentation provides a foundation of what the Emotional Intelligence skills are, and how to increase these skills for the Business Analyst.
