 MAIN PRESENTATION (7:15 – 8:30PM)

Title: "Improving The Information Security Community: A Conversation and A Call To Action"

Abstract:

Let's face it: As much as we in the Information Security field like to think we're living la vida loca doing cool tech tricks and saving less-savvy people from themselves, our nascent industry has a lot of problems: new people often don't realize what they're getting into, it's hard to practice our craft without stepping over boundaries, and the "public"'s perception of us ranges from jealousy to outright fear. Then there's the issues with actually getting a job: You have to have experience to find work, you have to have worked to find experience. This discussion will talk about some of the things we can do as an organization (as well as individual practitioners) to mentor and be examples to the next generation of security professionals, and even improve ourselves in the process.

SPEAKER:  Peter Hewitt, QSA, ASV, GAWN, GCWN, GCFA, GCIH, GWAS, CISSP, CISA, Senior Security Engineer at Agio

Bio:   Peter is an information assurance professional with close to two decades of experience working with financial, insurance and technology organizations. He even spent some time in sales, but he's all better now (although he still pronounces the letter "q" with a mild eye twitch). Pete specializes in penetration testing, Windows security, wireless security, forensics and incident response. This year, he plans to feed his acronym addiction by getting the OSCP.
