Central VA ISSA Chapter Website: http://www.issa-centralva.org/ Network Access Control (NAC)--Lessons learned NAC allows only compliant and trusted endpoint devices onto the network and restricts access of non-compliant devices, which helps to prevent security threats and risks from infecting the network. Eric Weakland, American University's Director of Network Security, will present his real-world experience in implementing and fine-tuning NAC at the Univerisity including: Driving factors in implementing end-point security One of the hardest parts of implementing a NAC solution is defining a manageable yet effective set of compliance-checking, enforcement and remediation policies. Upon initial deployment, what types of checks were performed at your organization? Has this changed since the initial stages? How are your policies setup for users, devices, and location? Are they all setup the same or different in the way they access your NAC segment? Migrating to a NAC solution requires a great deal of planning and education of IT and security personnel and end users as it is a naturally disruptive technology. Users previously granted broad network privileges will be "unsettled" by messages that they have either been denied access or have had privileges restricted. What kind of challenges have you been faced with so far?

Today's information age sees much of important data stored digitally. Cyber intrusions on key defence, business and government establishments are all too probable. Governments and corporations all over the world should recognize the importance of working together to mitigate the damage of such cyber threats. Cyber Defence & Information Security Asia 2008 shows you how to build a secure cyber infrastructure and mitigate threats such as cyber terrorism and online crimes. While it is not possible to safeguard against every cyber threat, adequate protection for vital data that can put confidentiality at risk should be a top priority for all.
The development of technology is evolving everyday, with industries adopting the use of digital tools to streamline business operations. We witnessed the invention and the applications of new technology, in particularly the use of digital information, which is seen as part of the trend evolution in the society today. The concept of electronic identity is not foreign to both public and private organisations. In fact, organisations recognise the quantifiable benefits of using e-ID, which streamlines procedures to data and physical access control. The implementation of digital identities is, however a continuous and challenging journey. With increasingly more sophisticated and demanding users, organisations have to be more sensitive towards issue of data privacy and protection, identity theft, authentication and smooth delivery of access control initiatives. E-Identity and Access Asia 2008 (EIA 2008) aims to discuss the application of digital information, the issues that occur with enrolment of e-identity programs, identifying solutions to reduce these complexities and the adoption of best practices shared through international case studies.
