ISSA International would like to welcome and congratulate the 12 founding members of the Montgomery Chapter. Michael Peters, CISO for Colonial Bank, has been elected as chapter president. The chapter is located in Montgomery, Alabama and will serve information security professionals in Central Alabama. Chapter meetings will be held on the second Thursday of each month.
Learn more about the chapter by visiting: http://issa-montgomery.org/
Members of the Sacramento, San Francisco and Silicon Valley Chapters will be staffing the ISSA booth along with ISSA International staff members, Kate Kanapeaux and Lyn Trainer. Stop by booth 2404 to visit with us.
80% of people who join associations do so because a friend invites them. So invite your friends who are not ISSA members to visit the ISSA booth and join during the conference. For each person you bring or refer to the booth, you will receive an additional entry into the membership drawing. If they join ISSA during the conference, we will send you a special gift as a token of appreciation.

The ISSA International Board is forming a new Advisory Board made up of current and former chapter presidents to provide regional expertise on unique membership and chapter development issues, mentor leaders of new chapters and engage chapters in ISSA initiatives. The Chapter Presidents Advisory Council (CPAC) will be chaired by ISSA President Howard Schmidt and Vice President Kevin Richards. If you would be willing to reach out to the chapters in your region, please contact your chapter president immediately. Delegates for the Council must be nominated by their Chapter Board by March 31.

The Business Continuity Institute (BCI), the globally recognized leader in total business continuity standards and certifications, has partnered with ISSA to create an easy path to BCI membership. Through March 31, 2008, current ISSA members can apply, via the BCI “Scored Assessment” process, for the Specialist BCI (SBCI) and Member BCI (MBCI) credentials for $50 -- without having to take the BCI Certificate Examination! The scored assessment process involves filling out an application, submitting your resume, and paying the $50 assessment fee. This offer for ISSA members represents ½ off the regular scored assessment process fee. (After March 31, 2008, BCI membership will require sitting for the BCI Certificate examination, along with submitting the application, a resume, and a $350 Examination Fee.)
Please note: This offer is not a guarantee of being awarded a BCI credential – it is a structured review process that examines work history, experience, and references. A certification panel will determine if the candidate meets the requisite terms for certification. Final decisions will be returned in 6-8 weeks. Yearly dues will also be required upon the credential being approved. A fee structure can be located here.
(For a listing of the 10 BCI Certification Standards, please visit the BCI Website.)

Companies and public sector bodies alike are at risk from unauthorized access and the loss of valuable corporate and personal data. Recent events in the news have highlighted just how real this risk is. Achieving confidentiality of data through encryption is straightforward. The challenge that organizations face is how to strike the right balance between confidentiality, integrity and availability, particularly when data is exchanged between partner organizations, and data is stored on mobile devices that reside outside the glass house of security. Technology is available to secure data, but processes also need to be in place to ensure compliance and enable access to the encrypted information. In this session, you'll learn what strategies to use to protect your organization against the repercussions of lost or stolen devices.
