Transition FAQ for ISSA Members

UPDATE: Effective June 30, 2006, the Information Systems Security Association has migrated its headquarters functions to an in-house team ready to serve you. This is an important milestone for our association as we seek to increase the scope of research and educational services we provide our membership. Please review our latest FAQs to understand how this impacts you.

When should I join or renew my membership?

Now. Our new system for taking membership orders is now online. You can go here to join, or click here to renew your membership. When we process membership renewals, we will add the purchased term length to your expiration date. For example, if your membership is due to expire in 4 months, and you purchase a one year membership, you will now have 16 months of prepaid ISSA membership.

When ordering online you will receive an immediate receipt, and will receive welcome packet via email in 3 business days. If you have questions or issues with the new membership system, please contact member@issa.org.

How do I report system problems?

Any transition of this magnitude is bound to have its share of broken links and bounced email messages. We appreciate knowing about anything you find. Please report

You can also go to the contacts page to find resources for any other issues.

How do I send the ISSA sensitive information that I wish to encrypt?

Please email Jim Reavis at jim@reavis.org using his public key.

Why is the ISSA transitioning to in-house operations?

ISSA President Dave Cullinane answered this question in a letter in February's ISSA Journal. He wrote:

  1. To improve the services and responsiveness of the ISSA and assure that we can more effectively serve a growing and increasingly international membership, as well as meet the diverse needs of Chapters around the world;
  2. To reduce the cost of administration and other services by utilizing state of the art, yet proven technologies;
  3. To use the savings to fund activities that will increase the value of the ISSA to our members through additional services, offerings and improvements;
  4. To continue to grow the ISSA.

When will the transition be completed?

The final milestone will be completed in late 2006 with the rollout of a state-of-the-art association management software solution for both headquarters and chapters. If you are interested in helping with this rollout and possibly having your chapter as an early adopter, please contact team@voiceofsecurity.com.

Who comprises the new ISSA in-house team?

We are using a combination of volunteers and contract labor to support the transition while we form a permanent staff. If you are interested in volunteering for the transition effort and interested in future opportunities with the ISSA, please contact us at team@voiceofsecurity.com.
