ISSA's Opt-in Reasoning

ISSA is an international organization with members in more than 80 countries around the world. As with most international organizations, ISSA is subject to multiple privacy and security rules in many different jurisdictions. Because of this, the ISSA International Board has taken the following steps to ensure that the personal information that we store on our members is protected and is only used for the purpose it was collected and, further, is maintained in compliance with the applicable privacy laws to which we are subject.

  1. The Board has adopted a new Privacy Policy, and has publicly posted a statement for the use of each member's personal information.
  2. Our policy states that we will use our members' personal information for internal purposes only (e.g. membership processing and services, member communications, chapter development, etc.). This information will never be given to an outside party for commercial use without prior approval of the member.
  3. We have adopted an Opt-In policy for sharing this information. Each member's specific authorization is required for a third party to use this information for other purposes in any form. And when so used, the information must be retained in the hands of a trusted party while the communication is processed. It will not be provided to an outside party or used for any purpose not consented to by the ISSA.
  4. Only individuals serving in an official ISSA capacity (i.e. paid staff, International Board officers and local chapter officers) are permitted to access this information for proper purposes as described.
  5. For the purposes of chapter development, officers of developing Chapters in a particular region of the world (i.e. country) will be permitted access to unaffiliated member information for that country.
  6. All ISSA paid staff, International Board officers and Directors, and Chapter officers are required to abide by this policy.

We wanted to make our membership aware of this change, and to inform you that all International and local Chapter officers are required to adhere to these policies. We know that you as individuals are as concerned with privacy issues as we are. We trust that you will understand the necessity behind these requests and will cooperate with us in making sure that we protect all personal information on behalf of our members.
